Now that we’ve recovered (some more than others) from the excitement and insanity of the World Cup, it’s worth a reminder that global club soccer remains well underway this season. Whether it’s the English Premier League and your team is Arsenal, or you’re a La Liga fan who supports Barcelona, or you just can’t get enough UEFA Champions league... the reality is that up until June, the best teams in the world will be competing for the biggest trophies in the world.
Luckily, NYC has no shortage of bars where soccer fans can gather to watch the Beautiful Game. Below are a few of our favorites, from Manhattan to Queens to Brooklyn, that are sure to provide great food, drinks, and atmosphere.
-
Smithfield Hall
Positioned in the heart of the city just a few blocks from MSG, Smithfield Hall is an electrifying experience for catching soccer matches all year round. They show games from all around the world, but it gets particularly packed when Manchester United plays. The atmosphere is incredible – ordering drinks/food is easy, as you do it right from your phone, which is huge when you’re in a crowded, rowdy soccer pub!
-
Bar 43 Grill
Queens is one of the most vibrant and diverse places on earth. It’s also got some of the best spots for watching soccer. One of our favorites is Bar 43, which is home to the Soccer Republic, a national organization that recognizes the best soccer bars in the country. And don’t get us started on the wings.... Bar 43 is a must-try for anyone in Queens looking to catch some action this season.
-
The Grafton
Watching soccer at The Grafton delivers a unique and authentic experience. There are TVs EVERYWHERE, so whether you’re at the bar or an intimate table, you’ll have a great viewing setup. The drinks and classic pub food are some of the best in the area. You can also reserve seating ahead of time which is a pro-tip for those planning on hitting The Grafton for a big match. Just email the bar and they’ll let you know of their availability. Be warned – it's a Liverpool bar!
-
11th St. Bar
This East Village favorite has seven big TVs, both indoors and outdoors, and is known for its delicious but affordable drinks and “neighborhood” feel. This place feels warm and inviting... and they often have live music, which adds to the vibe.
-
Bar Bruno
A gem in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, Bar Bruno’s concept is simple: be THE neighborhood spot for delicious food that isn’t expensive. Modeled after Euro-Mexican cafes and bars from the 60s, Bar Bruno has an old school vibe. It also revolves around soccer. Catch a big match there and it’s sure to be a memory you’ll cherish forever.
