The Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) has no shortage of amusements for the cinephile in you. The MoMI transforms from museum, to movie theater, to hands-on workshop, to event space, catering to the tastes and needs of a diverse NYC audience. For those looking to spend the day strolling through its exhibits, MoMI offers visitors a variety of experiences, such as immersive forays into virtual reality, in-depth looks into the film making processes of acclaimed movies, interactive digital animation exhibits, and much more.
End your visit with a movie in one of their screening rooms, or visit solely for their eclectic selections of films that stray from the mainstream. Their selections change frequently, though there are always options within the genres of animated films, silent films, nonfiction and more. Movie tickets are $15, $11 for seniors and students, and $9 for kids. MoMI members receive a discount at $7–$11.
MoMI doesn't stop there! If you'd like to expand you knowledge of the film, television, and digital media even more, you can register for a variety of workshops, talks, and engaging tours, both virtually and in-person. These programs are led by museum educators, artists, filmmakers, and game designers, and tailored to the specific interests of your group.
Tickets to the Museum exhibits are $10–20, and free for MoMI members. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged but not required. Free general admission is offered every Thursday from 2–6p.m (no reservations required). For those who would like to combine a museum visit and a movie screening, you can bundle your tickets by purchasing a movie ticket and adding on a museum pass for only $5.
