Red, White, and Blue Sparkling Wine Cocktail

This is one of the easiest ways to jazz up your 4th of July or other summer celebration with very little effort, and it is one of my favorites. It consists of my alcohol of choice, sparkling wine, and fruit—how could it be bad?! The bourbon blueberries have just a bit of bitterness that is offset by the sweetness of the blueberries and simple syrup. It is also easily adjustable to your taste; below is my version, but feel free to adjust the ratios to fit what you like!
This cocktail consists of a sparkling wine, like prosecco, bourbon soaked blueberries, a little simple syrup, and fresh strawberries for garnish. Both the bourbon soaked berries and the syrup are made in advance, making this a great option for entertaining this summer. You can set up your bar with these items and guests can make their own drinks, giving you the air of having a fancy signature cocktail without the fuss.

Bourbon Soaked Berries

Ingredients

  • 8oz blueberries
  • 4oz bourbon

Directions

  1. Fill a jar (I use a mason jar but anything with a nice tight lid works) with about 8oz of washed blueberries.
  2. Pour bourbon of your choice over the berries. This should mostly cover the blueberries.
  3. Cover tightly and let them sit overnight in your fridge. They should last in your fridge for about 6 weeks.

Simple Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1/2C sugar
  • 1/2C water

Directions

  1. Add both your sugar and water to a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved; you will know it's ready when the cloudy sugar water becomes completely clear.
  3. Turn off heat and let cool.
  4. Once cooled, you can store it in a glass jar with a tight lid in the fridge. It will keep in the fridge for about 1 month.

Bourbon Soaked Blueberry Prosecco Cocktail

Makes 1 Drink

Ingredients

  • 1 shot (or about 1oz) Bourbon soaked blueberries
  • 1 tsp simple syrup (or more to taste)
  • Prosecco or other sparkling wine
  • Handful of strawberries, sliced for garnish

Directions

  1. Start by adding a shot of blueberries to your glass. If you are a big bourbon fan, you can add more of the bourbon. If you are like me, you might stick to mostly berries.
  2. Add 1 tsp of simple syrup to the glass.
  3. Top off the glass with a nice pour of your chilled sparkling wine.
  4. Stir and taste, add more syrup or bourbon/berries as needed.
  5. Garnish with sliced strawberries. I like to drop a few into the glass and then put a slice on the rim.

And that's it! Your drink is ready and your summer celebration is off to an amazing start.
