OUR INITIATIVES

URBAN FARMING WITH MICROHABITAT

In June 2022, MicroHabitat installed urban farming pods across StuyTown, with 250 raised plant pots growing produce from May to November. Three of the locations are tucked away safely out of sight but with sufficient sunlight and the fourth location is visible to the community on the corner of E 14th St & Ave A. MicroHabitat & Beam Living have partnered to activate hundreds of square feet of previously unused concrete space to cultivate and harvest over 2 tons of produce each year. MicroHabitat will also offer complimentary seed packets to residents, provide insight into this unique urban sustainability program, and even get their hands dirty assisting with planting and maintenance. SociAbility, our recently formed support group for resident adults with disabilities will meet MicroHabitat each week to assist in light maintenance, harvesting, and delivery of the produce to local shelters across the East Village and Lower East Side. Throughout the summer, visit the in-person informational kiosks for more details on MicroHabitat and how you can get involved.
