Our Sustainability Initiatives - Rooftop Honeybee Hive Program
HONEYBEE ADOPTION
We've installed 10 beehives on our rooftops and established a Wild Bee Hotel on site as part of our commitment to promoting eco-conscious cities. By adopting honeybees, we are helping change people’s perspective of the urban environment and reconnecting our community with the subtle wonders of nature. How does it work? Thousands of our honeybee neighbors from the rooftops pollinate the surrounding urban flora during the summer. By the end of the season, we harvest the honey, which we are able to share with our StuyTown community.
HONEYBEE HOTEL
Our residents can directly interact with wild bees without fear of being stung! Our Wild Bees Hotel in the Town Garden encourages local bees to nest in a space where people can observe them. Display trays within the wild bee structure can be opened for viewing. This makes it easy and ideal for people to witness a cross section of the nesting tubes without disturbing the bees.
